This park is modelled on those of the Heian period style gardens in a vast landscape. The father of Murasaki Shikibu (a famous writer during the Heian period) and Tametoki Fujiwara came and lived in Takefu, where they worked for a year as officials at the local government office. This park is made in the style of noble residences in the Heian period or ‘Shinden-zukuri’ style, creating ponds and artificial hills with a background of borrowed landscape of the local mountains surrounding the Takefu basin. The gold coloured statue of Murasaki Shikibu shines with particular brilliance in this garden.
