Food & DiningFood & Dining In ancient times, Fukui Prefecture used to supply Kyoto and Nara with food ingredients such as seafood from rich fishing ground and crops harvested thanks to good-quality water and fertile soil, and thus it was known as "Mitsukekuni" i.e. "Province of Food". Today, you may enjoy traditional regional dishes and you could also learn how to make them in cooking workshops. You may also experience Shojin-ryori (Japanese vegetarian dishes) based on vegetables and soy beans to know Zen-style eating habits.
