Castle Festival

The Festival at Obama Shrine, dedicated to Lord Tadakatsu Sakai

The Castle Festival is an annual event held on May 2nd and 3rd at Obama Shrine, on the grounds of the Obama Castle Site, which enshrines Lord Tadakatsu Sakai, the feudal lord of Wakasa Province.

The festival features a grand drum performance, but the "Unpin Lion Dance," designated as an Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Fukui Prefecture, is particularly famous.

The Unpin Lion Dance depicts a love rivalry between two male lions vying for a female lion, expressed through flute music and a vigorous dance.

The sounds of gongs and drums resonate through the fresh greenery of Obama's castle town, blending with the flute's melody.

We hope you will join us.
