Akatan Sand Control Dam Group
The Akatan Erosion Control Weir Complex, located on the Akagawa River flowing through Furuki, Minami-Echizen Town, consists of seven stone-built weirs and two earthen weirs constructed in the 1890s. Even after more than 100 years, it continues to function as an erosion control weir, preventing sediment disasters while harmonizing with the surrounding natural landscape. In July 2004, it was designated a National Registered Tangible Cultural Property. Walking paths and benches have been installed around the weirs.
