Echizen Lacquerware Hall
Echizen Lacquerware Hall provides visitors with the opportunity to learn about and experience Echizen Lacquerware. Visitors can see traditional lacquerware artisans at work here. Hands-on workshops are available, to decorate lacquered wood or apply lacquer to plain wood. (Reservations required)
The shop offers a wide selection of local products.
Echizen lacquerware, which combines elegance and robustness, has a history of more than 1,500 years and is designated as a traditional craft of Japan.
At the Echizen Lacquerware Hall, visitors can observe the history of lacquerware and the manufacturing process. More than 1,000 products are displayed and sold in the store, and can be purchased at a much lower price than you would pay once the products are sent to retailers across Japan and beyond. In the adjacent craftsman's workshop, traditional craftsmen give demonstrations, allowing visitors to observe their work right in front of them.
