Nishiyama Park
The premier azalea spot on the Sea of Japan coast
Nishiyama Park, where approximately 50,000 azalea bushes bloom in profusion, is the premier azalea destination on the Sea of Japan coast. Every year in early May, the park hosts a grand “Azalea Festival.” The park features a spacious lawn area, large playground equipment, the Nishiyama Zoo (free admission)—famous for its red pandas—and a Japanese garden. With over 150 years of history and its beautiful, nature-rich landscape, it has been selected as one of the “100 Historic Parks of Japan.”
Visitors can also enjoy the park throughout the four seasons, with approximately 1,000 cherry trees, 1,600 maple trees, and a winter wonderland of snow-covered trees.
