Nishiyama Park

A Public Park Famous for Flowers, a Japanese Garden, and Red Pandas

Nishiyama Park is a large public park known for its seasonal beauty, traditional garden, and zoo. In addition to 1,000 cherry blossom trees that bloom in late March and April, Nishiyama Park draws visitors for its 50,000 azalea bushes, which bloom in early May. Every year in early May, a grand "Azalea Festival" is held.

The park's Kyoyo Garden is open to the public. This Japanese garden features an open building that looks out over a pond of koi fish. In mid-November, the 1,600 maple trees here turn a deep red and orange.

Nishiyama Zoo is a free zoo located inside the park. The zoo is best known for its collection of red pandas—one of the largest in Japan.
