Echizen Washi Village Paper Culture Museum
Echizen Washi boasts over 1,500 years of history. Discover the legend of its origins, the history of the village of washi, and the charm of Echizen Washi and its production area.
This museum introduces the origins of Echizen Washi, from its legends and history to the advanced techniques that have supported the production of essential papers for Japanese art, including ceremonial paper, and the creation of banknotes. On the first floor, visitors can observe the fibers of washi paper and touch various types of washi. The second floor features an exhibition showcasing the charm of washi and its production area, including tools and products used in making Echizen Washi, designated as an Important Cultural Property.
