Shibata Garden
This former residence of Shibata Gon'emon, a wealthy farmer in Tsuruga during the Edo period, is also known as "Gantōen." Its strolling landscape garden with artificial hills and ponds borrows the scenery of Mount Nosaka, Tsuruga's most prominent peak. The garden was created using the moat surrounding the residence, and the study overlooking it served as a resting place for the lords of the Obama domain during their mandatory visits to Edo. The simple, traditional shoin-zukuri architecture and garden create a serene space, designated as a National Scenic Beauty.
