Mikatagoko Nature Cruise
This eco-friendly cruise takes you around the Mikatagoko lakes (Five Lakes of Mikata)—a scenic highlight of the Wakasa region in Fukui Prefecture—aboard Japan’s first battery-powered sightseeing boat, powered by renewable energy.
Electricity generated by the facility’s solar panels is stored in the boat’s batteries, allowing it to glide silently without emitting CO₂ or exhaust fumes, thereby minimizing the impact on the natural environment.
Over the course of a leisurely 50-minute cruise, you’ll take in the ever-changing scenery of the Five Lakes of Mikata—each with its own unique hue and water quality—as well as the mountain ranges that shift with the seasons and the lush, tree-lined Urami River.
Surrounded by the tranquility and sense of openness unique to the lake, please enjoy a moment to experience the precious nature of the Ramsar Convention Wetland, as well as the lifestyle and culture that thrive in the Mikatagoko region.
