Yamanaka Tunnel

This brick-built tunnel features a straight, 1,170-meter-long, five-arch ring structure, with brickwork also used for the portal. Constructed as one of Japan's largest railway tunnels, it is known for being completed after arduous construction efforts, alongside the Hayabara Tunnel on the former Hokuriku Line.

This Yamanaka Tunnel is one of the constituent cultural properties of the Japan Heritage site "Railways Crossing the Sea: The Miracle of Railways Connecting to the World" (designated June 19, 2020).
