Learn from a Traditional Craftsman of Echizen Lacquerware: Experience Wiping Lacquer on a Wooden Tray
■Highlights

At Nishikikuri Lacquerware Shop in Kawada, the town of Echizen lacquerware, brothers run a lacquer workshop. In this experience, you'll receive hands-on instruction directly from Masataka Nishikikuri, the elder brother and artisan at Nishikikuri Lacquerware Shop, to try your hand at wiping lacquer on a wooden tray.
Mr. Nishikikuri approaches lacquer work with a playful spirit, no matter his age.
He takes great pleasure in teaching visitors about lacquerware, offering careful instruction to each person who comes to the production area.
■Experience Details

Upon arriving at Nishikikuri Lacquerware Shop, you'll receive a lecture from Mr. Nishikikuri about Echizen lacquerware and the experience, then select your own tray. Since the wood grain atmosphere differs for each piece, please choose the one you like best.
Since lacquer can cause skin irritation, you'll wear loaner gloves, arm covers, and an apron for the lacquer wiping experience.

First, Mr. Nishikikuri will demonstrate the technique. Then, you'll apply lacquer yourself using the artisan's tools. Even if you encounter difficult parts, Mr. Nishikikuri will guide you directly beside you, so beginners can participate with confidence. The tray you paint will be dried, finished, and shipped approximately 4-5 weeks later.

After the experience, you can enjoy shopping at the attached Kinokuri Lacquerware Shop or at SAVA!STORE, operated by the design office TSUGI. Please stop by!
This tray, perfect for serving meals or as a breakfast/snack tray, will turn your everyday moments into cherished ones. Why not join us to create your very own tray that will last a lifetime?
