The Wakasa Ohi Super Fireworks Festival is a large fire festival held at the beginning of August, at Uminpia Ohi. Some 60 young adults from the community join together along the shore to spin huge burning torches 20 meters tall, that each weigh about a ton.

The Super Ogase, a massive leaf-shaped torch standing 20 meters tall and weighing 1 ton, blazes fiercely as it dances dramatically over the sea. This spectacular fire festival scorches the midsummer night sky.

The magnificent "Super Fireworks Festival" still held throughout Ohi Town is said to have a tradition of over 300 years and is designated as an Intangible Folk Cultural Property.

Originally performed over two nights to pray for protection from fire and a bountiful harvest, it is crafted by assembling five layers of crossbeams onto a 14-meter-long cypress pole to form a leaf shape, then binding bundles of reeds and pampas grass to the pole's tip and the five crossbeams.

Fire is then lit, and the pole is erected on the mountain peak. The pole is spun, toppled, raised, and spun again. This process is repeated several times, creating a spectacular and dynamic fire festival with dancing flames.
