Yashagaike Pond

Yashagaike Pond, nestled at an elevation of 1,099 meters near the border with Ibigawa Town in Gifu Prefecture, exudes a mystical atmosphere as it lies dormant. This nearly circular pond, said to be 230 meters in circumference and 7.7 meters deep, is steeped in legend. One tale tells of a maiden who threw herself into the pond to save the land from drought, earning it the alternate name "Rain Prayer Pond." Tracing the clear waters of the Hino River upstream, you'll find a dense stand of natural monument horse chestnut trees, beyond which lies Yashagaike Pond. Starting with the June spawning of the Japanese tree frog, the area showcases the changing expressions of nature throughout the seasons, featuring beech, rhododendron, maple, and mountain ash trees.
