Cherry Blossoms along the Asuwa River

Stunning Riverside Cherry Blossoms, in the Heart of the City

In Fukui City, the banks of the Asuwa River are a beloved springtime destination for cherry blossoms. Some 600 trees line a stretch of the river more than two kilometers long, and from late March to mid-April, they come into bloom. During this period, the riverbank takes on a festive atmosphere, with people walking around, picnicking, or relaxing on the grass, and stalls selling food and drinks. At night, much of the riverbank is lit up, for a unique way to enjoy the scenery.

This section of the Asuwa River features one of the longest stretches of cherry blossom trees in Japan. The nearby Mt. Asuwa Deck offers a panoramic view from above.
