Tenryuji Temple(Soto Zen Buddhisum, Seiryōzan Tenryū-ji)
This temple is a branch temple of Eiheiji, the head temple of the Soto Zen sect. It was established in 1653 by order of Matsudaira Masakatsu, the first lord of the Echizen Matsuoka domain. Originally built to pray for the repose of the soul of Lord Masakatsu's grandmother (Seiryōin, a concubine of Yūki Hideyasu), it later became Lord Masakatsu's family temple. Additionally, the temple houses the Basho Tomb (a town-designated cultural property), which commemorates Matsuo Basho's visit in 1689, along with a monument inscribed with the haiku Basho composed while in this area.
