Karihime Shrine
Following the old road through Ooi Town's Namashōshita district leads to Kanda Himegami Shrine. To the right of the main hall stand a Japanese mulberry tree and Japanese cedars, while to the left are Japanese cedars and cherry trees. The Japanese mulberry tree is designated as a Prefectural Natural Monument. This tree is approximately 300 years old, with a trunk circumference of 7.5 meters and a height of about 17 meters. The main trunk is broken at a height of 10 meters. Ferns like Osmunds cling to this broken trunk, lending the ancient tree a fitting charm. The Japanese mulberry is a warm-climate tree found west of the Kanto region, characterized by its flat, plate-like roots.
