Kamejima (Bentenjima)

A turtle-shaped island

This island is famed for the legend that after the principal image of the Thousand-Armed Kannon from Itosaki Town—known for its nationally and prefecturally designated intangible folk cultural property "Buddhist Dance"—arrived riding a turtle, that turtle transformed into an island. It measures 2 km in circumference and resembles a turtle swimming out to sea.

The island is also known as "Benten Island" due to a shrine dedicated to the celestial maiden Benzaiten. A walking path has been developed nearby, making it an ideal spot for strolling while enjoying the scenic views or for fishing.
