Sakichi Shrine
Sakichi Shrine is an ancient shrine said to have been founded over 1,000 years ago. The “Takahama Seven-Year Festival”—one of the largest festivals in the Reinan region of Fukui Prefecture, held once every six years and lasting seven days—is a festival of Sakichi Shrine.
Just under 30 meters from the side of the main hall stands a massive, moss-covered rock known as the “Rock Where the Gods Dwell.” This is a popular power spot in Takahama.
According to the town’s history, it is said that during the Eishō era (1504–1530), Hitomi Etchū-no-kami Sadachika—a vassal of Takeda Nobuchika, the guardian of Wakasa—built Saidōyama Castle on a mountain 118 meters south of the shrine. The town’s history also includes a map showing the castle ruins, depicting a large rock to the south of the shrine, with the main keep and a waterfall depicted further south.
