The Residence of the Kitamaebune Shipowner: The Ukon Family
Along National Route 305 stands the "Kitamaebune Shipowner's Residence: The Ukon Family," displaying a magnificent presence that evokes its former glory. The prosperity of the Ukon family, which owned over 30 ships at its peak, is evident in its lavishly appointed Western-style building, alongside its two-story gabled-roof, tile-covered residence in the Kansai style.
The Western-style building is a must-see. Its first floor features a Spanish-style design with a base of cream-colored walls finished with a rough texture. The second floor adopts a chalet-style appearance, using logs as exterior cladding. A distinctive feature is the Spanish tile roof that extends all the way down to cover the projecting sections.
