Mana Gorge and Lake Mana

The sad legend of Princess Mana remains

The Managawa Gorge is a deep canyon that develops from about 1 km upstream of the Gojōhō Power Plant in the upper reaches of the Managawa River in Ōno City, extending to the vicinity of the Managawa Dam. Further upstream lies Lake Mana, where the sad legend of Princess Mana, who saved a village suffering from famine, remains, and a bronze statue of Princess Mana has been erected.

The Wako settlement, submerged by the dam, is said to be where Heike refugees settled. The "Ogi Odori" (Goten Odori) dance, believed to have originated as a way to commemorate its former glory, has been passed down.
