Ryusougataki Falls
The waterfall has a drop of approximately 60 meters and was designated as one of the “100 Best Waterfalls in Japan” in 1990. The view of the waterfall as you look up from right beside it after descending the stairs is nothing short of spectacular. The autumn foliage season also offers a charm distinct from that of summer. Legends surround this waterfall: one tells of a monk named Ryusou who once lived here, carving statues of gods and Buddhas while devoting himself to a single prayer; another speaks of a dragon dwelling in the deep pool at the base of the falls, which would occasionally swim upstream to ascend to heaven. A parking lot is located about 200 meters before the waterfall (downstream).
