Imajo Tourism Volunteer Guide Association

We are pleased to introduce Imajo-juku, designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings.

Imajo-juku was a post station along the Manyo Road crossing the Yamanaka Pass in the Nara period,

In the medieval period, it flourished as the gateway to the Hokuriku region along the Hokuriku Road crossing Kinome Pass.

and in the early modern period, the Hokuriku Highway crossing the Togi Pass.

Even today, the atmosphere of that era remains vividly preserved.

The winding roads retain their traditional layout, making them impassable for large vehicles.

Come explore the roads once walked by Oban Yakamochi, Murasaki Shikibu, Dogen, and Basho.

Why not take a walk through the "Old Hokuriku Line Tunnel Ruins," designated as a "Japan Heritage" site?

The 11 brick tunnels and switchback remnants left behind from the Hokuriku Line, which opened in 1896,

along with various other ruins, while overlooking Tsuruga Bay below.

Whether you walk, take a bus, or drive your own car, reservations ensure a pleasant experience.

and for enthusiasts, we provide detailed guidance using AR and other tools.

*The walk is approximately 10 kilometers.

※Large buses must turn around at the Yamanaka Tunnel.

*Minibuses and private vehicles can pass through to Tsuruga.

Let us guide you through the charming streets of Imajo.
