Ichijodani Asakura Family Site Museum
The Ichijodani Asakura Family Site Museum has opened, offering visitors the chance to learn about the full picture and historical value of the once-prosperous Asakura clan's Sengoku-period (the 'Warring States" period of Japanese history; approx. 1467-1568) castle town while enjoying the experience.
It offers multiple perspectives on the power and splendor of the Daimyo feudal lords of the Asakura clan, the cutting-edge urban landscape of the era, the diverse residents who lived in the town, and the reality of war, ruin, and the actual conditions of Echizen and Ichijodani during the Sengoku period.
Highlights include a full-scale reconstruction of part of the Asakura Residence where the fifth head, Asakura Yoshikage, lived; an exposed display of stone-paved ruins thought to be part of the river port "Ichijo Bay," a distribution hub; and a massive 1/30 scale diorama recreating the castle town's streetscape.
