Covered in mud! Harvesting lotus flowers in the pink-tinged rice paddies!
Minami-Echizen Town, Domiyama. This is a village where the rice fields turn pink with flowers every summer. Here, we cultivate lotus flowers—known as Buddhist altar flowers for Obon—on a scale among the largest in Japan. You can step into these lotus fields and harvest the flowers yourself. Touch the earth in the fields, feel the mud's texture, and smell the flowers—experience the sensations nature offers with all five senses. At the end, you'll create a bouquet with the lotus flowers you harvested to take home as a souvenir.
