An ancient shrine listed in the Engishiki Jinmyōchō.
Though temporarily ruined by war, it was restored by Kanamori Nagachika, lord of Ono Castle, and received deep patronage from successive feudal lords. Designated a Prefectural Shrine in 1875. Revered as the tutelary deity of the Onohara region, its sacred spring water is especially cherished as healing divine water by worshippers from Okuechizen (Ono City, Katsuyama City) and beyond, both within and outside the prefecture.
