Kinome Pass
This pass divides Fukui Prefecture into the northern and southern regions. For 1,200 years, a checkpoint stood here as the gateway to Echizen. From the Edo period onward, the Maekawa family served as tea house attendants and mountain patrol officers. This area was repeatedly used as a battlefield, and many castle ruins from the Warring States period remain, making it a historically fascinating pass.
It is mentioned in military chronicles such as the "The Tale of Yoshitsune" and the "Akechi Gunki".
