Rainbow Line Summit Park
The Rainbow Line Summit Park is along the Rainbow Line, an 11-kilometer road that runs through the mountains around the Five Lakes of Mikata. It is the only place that offers a view of all five lakes at once. The park is located at the top of Mt. Baijodake, with a two-minute cable car ride up from the parking area along the Rainbow Line.
The park has five terraces to view the lakes from, including covered areas that offer shade or shelter from the weather. Near the central terrace is a rose garden, which comes into bloom from mid-May to mid-June, and from mid-October to mid-November. Wago Shrine here is dedicated to happy marriages, and popular with couples. In addition to enjoying the park’s hammock area, open-air foot bath, and café, visitors can buy “wish plates”: small pottery dishes to throw down the mountain, as a way to make wishes.
