Tojinbo Cliffs

That iconic scene from the crime drama right before your eyes! Fukui’s famous sheer cliffs!!

In the climax of a suspense drama, a criminal cornered by a detective on a cliff-top coastline confesses to the crime...

I’m sure many of you are familiar with that kind of scene!

"Tojinbo" in Sakai City is a location that Fukui is proud of—and it’s the perfect setting for just such a memorable scene!

"Tojinbo" features a massive columnar jointing formation stretching for about 1 km. Standing on the edge of the cliff, you can’t help but feel your legs go weak.

Columnar jointing on this scale is rare even worldwide, and it is counted among theThree Great Scenic Views of the World”!

Its rarity is recognized nationwide; it has been designated a "National Natural Monument" and selected as one of the "100 Best Geological Sites in Japan."

It is also known as a famous spot for sunset views and has been selected as one of “Japan’s Top 100 Sunsets.”

In recent years, it has also gained attention as a spot where you can witness the “green flash”—a phenomenon where the sun glows green for just a few seconds as it sinks below the horizon—several times a year.

Various businesses at Tojinbo offer a wide variety of services, ensuring visitors never get bored.

The view of the sea from the edge of the Tojinbo cliffs is impressive, but seeing Tojinbo from the sea or the air is equally spectacular and well worth the experience!
