Lake Kuzuryu
A Large Lake in the Mountains, Surrounded by Forest
Lake Kuzuryu was created in the mountains of eastern Fukui in 1968, when a hydroelectric dam was built on the Kuzuryu River. The lake is several kilometers long and as much as 355 meters wide in places, and the 266-meter-long Hakogase Bridge offers a vantage point to enjoy the surroundings.
Today, Lake Kuzuryu is a popular destination for outdoor recreation and relaxation. In late March and April, the lake is surrounded by some 10,000 or so cherry blossom trees in bloom. In late October and November, the red and orange of the surrounding maple trees create a striking contrast against the calm blue of the lake’s water.
