Nashikadaira Senmaida Narcissus Garden (Echizen Narcissus Colony)
The defeated Heike fugitives from the Genpei War hid in the Seven Plains (Nashigahara, Oojara, Obanjara, Yukigajara, Takegajara, Iwanjara, and Sakanjara). By the Edo period, people had gathered to live in the largest, Nashigahara, which flourished and developed as a direct fief ("Honbo-ryo").
It features terraced rice fields selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Terraced Fields, nationally rare for being adorned with narcissus flowers. (A terraced field narcissus ownership program is available.)
A short distance north of the Senmaida terraces lies a stunning photo spot overlooking the Sea of Japan and the Torimon Pass, featuring a large colony of narcissus flowers.
Additionally, a walking path leads from the Nashigahira settlement to the top of Torifunokuiwa (Bird Droppings Rock), where a wild narcissus colony spreads across the sheer cliff face.
During the blooming season from December to January, narcissus flowers bloom profusely, resembling a white carpet.
