Honmyōji Temple
Founded in 1376, its founding priest was Nikyo. Damaged by war during the Genki era, it received temple grounds from Lord Otani of Tsuruga Castle in 1590 and relocated from Hosen-cho to Kamijima-dera-cho.
This temple was one of three where the Mito Tengu Party was confined immediately after their surrender. It housed 346 individuals, including Takeda Kaisuke, the second son of Takeda Kōunsai. Although they were treated well at the temple, after being handed over to the shogunate, they were confined in sixteen storage warehouses in Funamachi, Tsuruga (present-day Horai-cho, Tsuruga City), which had been used to store fertilizer like herring meal. There, they endured harsh treatment.
