Transform into the geisha or maiko of your dreams with authentic kimono and makeup, dressed by the renowned geisha of Awara Onsen!

Location: 3-minute walk from Awara Yunomachi Station

International visitors and men can also enjoy this transformation with confidence.
You'll be styled with authentic wigs and makeup, and can choose your favorite pattern from several types of kimono.
※Men can also transform into maiko or geiko, but if the wig does not fit, the experience will be without a wig.
Experience Schedule (Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes)

 
★ Check-in at the facility (Traditional Performing Arts Hall within Awara Yuno Machi Plaza)

★ Select your kimono (approx. 7 types available)

★ Women wearing makeup must remove it.
After that, a real geisha will apply makeup for you. (Approx. 20 min)

★ Next, a wig will be applied.
This is a precious wig used by real maiko and geisha!

★ Next comes the dressing. First, put on tabi socks, and then a real geisha will dress you.
The kimono is different from a regular kimono; it is the actual kimono worn by maiko and geiko. (Kimono dressing takes about 20 minutes)
The kimono is much heavier than you might expect.

★Once you're dressed, you can take photos.

・Professional Photography Session: ¥11,000 per person. Photos taken at the Traditional Performing Arts Hall.

★After enjoying the experience to your heart's content, remove the wig, take off your makeup, change back into your regular clothes, and you're done!

・Height: Approximately 155cm or taller (suitable physique for wearing adult-sized kimono)
・Tabi socks are available in sizes 22–25 cm. (Please bring your own if you require a larger size.)
