Awara Onsen Ashiyu (Free Public Footbath)

This is the finest cypress-wood foot bath in the Hokuriku region.

Located within Awara Onsen Yunomachi Plaza in the heart of the hot spring town, this footbath—constructed entirely of hinoki cypress and featuring abundant use of Fukui Prefecture’s Shakudani stone—is the finest of its kind in the Hokuriku region. It utilizes two different types of spring water, both of which flow directly from the source, and visitors can enjoy them in five separate baths. The facility features a design inspired by the romance of the Taisho era, highlighted by stained-glass skylights depicting plum blossoms, irises, and geisha. At night, these stained-glass panels and the entire footbath area are illuminated, creating a magical atmosphere.
