Eshikoto
Located in the middle reaches of the Kuzuryu River—the largest river in Fukui Prefecture—Eiheiji Town is blessed with pristine water and has a long history as a center of sake brewing; at one time, the Matsuoka district alone was home to as many as 17 sake breweries. One brewery carrying on that legacy is Kokuryu Shuzo, known for its “Kokuryu” brand.
"Eshikoto" is a facility opened in June 2022 by this long-established brewery to promote the food and culture of the Hokuriku region, with a focus on sake. The facility houses Ishida-ya Eshikoto, a direct-operated store of Kokuryu Sake Brewery, and the restaurant acoya. Directly in front of the facility lies the Kuzuryu River—the source of the "Kokuryu" name—along with the mountains and fields of Eiheiji, allowing visitors to enjoy sake and meals while leisurely taking in the scenery.
