Hokojima Island
A sunset spot that's perfect for Instagram
Hokojima Island is located on the Echizen Coast in Fukui City, about 5 kilometers from Takasu Swimming Beach along Route 305 in the direction of Koshino. The island is a 50-meter-high columnar rock formation eroded by the rough waves of the Sea of Japan, and a boardwalk is maintained, with pine trees growing atop the cliffs and a Jizo statue enshrined there. During the day, the area bustles with people swimming in the sea and rock fishing, but in the evening, the beautiful sun sets over the Sea of Japan, as if to lament the passing of a summer's day.
