Yumeole Katsuyama Textile Factory Museum
Yumeole Katsuyama is a museum dedicated to Katsuyama’s history of making silk fabric. Visitors can see the large old machines that were once used to weave silk, or try hands-on experiences such as weaving a coaster using a hand loom, or making crafts out of silkworm cocoons.
It is a preserved building that was operated as a medium-sized textile factory in Katsuyama from 1905 to 1998, and is designated as a cultural asset by Katsuyama City and a Heritage of Modernization by the national government.
On the first floor, there is a town information center, a hand weaving workshop, a café corner, and a general souvenir store, where visitors can enjoy tastes and experiences unique to Katsuyama, and on the second floor, visitors can learn about the history of "Katsuyama, the town of textiles" and view a realistic exhibition that makes use of the "hataya" weaver building. The textile-related machinery from the Showa period (1926-1989) is a must-see!
The hand-weaving coaster and cocoon ball crafts available at the hands-on corner are very popular with parents and children. Other seasonal experiences are also available.
