Tenman Shrine
Taira no Kiyomori's grandson, Taira no Morimori, fought as a commander for the Taira clan. He achieved a great victory in the Battle of Hiuchi at Imajō's Hiuchi Castle, but was defeated by Kiso Yoshizane at the Battle of Kurikara Pass. The Tale of the Heike depicts him drowning himself to end his life, yet legends persist in various regions that he survived. A legend also survives in Akaya-cho, part of the Miyama district in Fukui City, stating he hid here, his descendants multiplied, and a village formed. Tenman Shrine enshrines four deities: Taira no Morimori's guardian Buddha, the White Mountain Deity, a Yakushi Nyorai statue, and the sacred object of Taira Shrine.
One family that migrated from this area was the Akaya family of Ikeda Town, who have passed down the guardian Buddha of Yorimori through generations.
