Eiheiji Floating Lantern Festival
Why don't you float lanterns in Eiheiji-cho to express your gratitude, memorial services, and various wishes and thoughts?
Eiheiji-cho Daitoronagashi" is a summer event that marks the end of summer in Eiheiji-cho.
Lanterns from all over the country are gathered to express gratitude and offerings to ancestors, as well as various wishes and thoughts.
During the daytime, there will be a bazaar, a good food market, a kids' plaza, and other events for parents and children to enjoy together.
In the evening, about 100 Yakuryo and Unninshu priests from Eiheiji, the head temple of the Buddhist sect, will come to perform the Daseki Buddhist memorial service, in which they will read out all the names of the commandments and Buddhist names written on the memorial lanterns.
Afterwards, the lanterns are floated down the Kuzuryu River as a memorial service for the ancestors and their wishes.
The sight of the lanterns flowing down the river is registered as one of the 100 best night views in Japan, and the band of light that forms along the river is a fantastic sight.
Those who come on the day of the festival are able to float the lanterns themselves and can be seen joining hands with the lanterns as they flow down the river.
For those who cannot come on the day of the event, advance registration for the lanterns is available, and we will carefully write the sails on the lanterns and float them down the river.
If you wish to pre-order, please place your order from the "Products" page of the Eiheiji-cho Daitoronagashi website.
This is a big event that attracts about 10,000 lanterns from all over Japan every year.
We are looking forward to seeing you at the event.
