Hōkyōji Temple
Hōkyōji Temple is a renowned temple located approximately 10 kilometers southwest of Ōno City, situated upstream along the Kiyotaki River. Founded in 1278 by the eminent monk Jaku'en, who came to Japan out of reverence for Dōgen Zenji, the founder of Eiheiji Temple, it is the second most important temple of the Sōtō Zen sect after the head temple Eiheiji. It houses numerous prefecturally designated cultural properties, including an image of Dōgen Zenji, and nearby stands the nationally designated Important Cultural Property, the Former Hashimoto Family Residence.
