The "Daishisan Seidaiji Echizen Daibutsu" is one of Katsuyama's tourist resources. It is the tallest seated statue in Japan, modeled after the seated statue of Longmen Bongshenji in the Longmen Grottoes on the outskirts of Luoyang City, Henan Province, China.

On the three walls surrounding the seated statue, 1,281 stone and gold Buddhas are enshrined. The overwhelming scale and solemn atmosphere of the statue have been attracting attention through social networking services, and the statue has recently become a topic of conversation both in Japan and abroad.

The project was planned to create an artificial sea of clouds by taking advantage of the architectural design and the majestic characteristics of the space, resulting in a fantastical space that resembles a "fairyland," a legendary place where hermits dwell.

The sea of clouds will appear only during special viewing hours, creating a fantastic space.

Special Sea of Clouds Viewing Plan

The one hour after the gate opens and one hour before the gate closes are special viewing hours, during which an artificial sea of clouds creates a spectacular "fairyland" like view.

The fantastic space that seems to be inhabited by hermits spreads out on an overwhelming scale. Visitors to the special viewing hours will also receive a "special vermilion seal of the sea of clouds version" as a gift.
