Horiguchi Residence
A house from the early Edo period featuring a traditional sunken hearth in the earthen-floored living area
Built approximately 300 years ago during the early Edo period, this traditional gabled-roof farmhouse has been restored to its original condition and is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. It is said to have belonged to one of the 12 families that served Suwaazuki Shrine, and the structure of the house suggests that the family was likely wealthy farmers. Admission is free. If you wish to tour the interior, please call the Ikeda Town Board of Education (0778-44-8006) in advance (weekdays only).
