Ukan Shrine (Ikeda Town)
The shrine where Mizuumi Dengaku and Noh Dances are performed annually on February 15th
Ukan Shrine, where the Dengaku and Noh Dances of Mizuumi are performed. Its history is ancient, said to have been founded in 463 AD.
Since ancient times, the Dengaku dance, born in this land, took root as a ritual offering.
Later, due to exchanges with places like Nogo in Gifu Prefecture, it is thought that Noh dances, part of the Hakusan faith cultural sphere, was introduced. These traditions have been preserved by the villagers to this day. As the Mizuumi Dengaku and Noh Dances (a nationally designated Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property), four Dengaku dances and five Noh dances are performed annually on February 15th.
