Takefu Knife Village serves as a central base for the Echizen Blade industry. Visitors can learn about how knives are made, watch artisans at work, and shop from a wide selection of Echizen Blades. 

Hands-on workshops are also popular. In the "Knife Workshop" for individuals, visitors can experience almost all processes from heating and forging materials to attaching handles and finishing. For visitors interested in making their own knives, the facility offers hands-on workshops: make paper knives, outdoor knives, and various kitchen knives, or to learn how to sharpen knives with a whetstone. The craftsmen will teach you carefully, so you can rest assured. You can take home the knives you made that day, so you will have your own special one to remember your trip.

Takefu Knife Village was the result of many years of local effort. In the 1970s, young blade artisans began working to modernize their industry. In the 1980s, they developed the Takefu Knife Village brand, with iconic new knife designs. This helped revitalize the industry, and launch the Echizen Blades brand to international fame. 

Takefu Knife Village is a cooperative operated by 14 knife companies. 

Craftsmen work together to produce not only each company's products, but also Takefu Knife Village's original products. Teamwork that transcends company boundaries is another attraction unique to this location.
