Mount Hinoyama
Mount Hino, which Murasaki Shikibu also sang of in her poetry
Located on the border between Echizen City and Minami-Echizen Town, it is said to have been founded in 718 by the eminent monk Taichō Daishi. It has been a sacred mountain since ancient times, with the inner shrine of Hino Shrine situated at its summit. Its beautiful form has been celebrated in poetry by Murasaki Shikibu, Matsudaira Shungaku, and Yosano Akiko. It is also featured in Matsuo Bashō's "The Narrow Road to the Deep North." At an elevation of 795 meters, the summit offers views stretching from the Sea of Japan to the north and west, all the way to the distant sea of Mikuni, and to the east, where Mount Hakusan and Mount Ontake can be seen on clear days.
