Hino Shrine

A shrine at the trailhead of Mount Hino, also known as the Mt. Fuji of Echizen. It also houses Japan's oldest "Four Seasons of Farming" votive plaque.

A shrine at the trailhead of Mount Hino, also known as the Mt. Fuji of Echizen (present-day northern Fukui Prefecture), which has been a sacred mountain since ancient times. The inner shrine is located at the summit.

During the summer "Mount Hino Festival," participants first dedicate sacred kagura dances at the worship hall, then climb the mountain through the night. They keep vigil by bonfires until dawn to worship the rising sun.

At the Ema Hall, you can see Japan's oldest ema votive tablet, the "Four Seasons of Farming" painting, dedicated in 1665. It is a large work depicting the tasks involved in rice cultivation, from planting seedlings to weeding, harvesting, and threshing.
