Eiheiji Dam
Completed in 2001, this dam is located upstream on the Eiheiji River, a first-class river in the Kuzuryu River system. It was constructed for flood control, unspecified water use, and water supply purposes. It is a gravity concrete dam with a height of 57 meters and a crest length of 177 meters. A distinctive feature is the evenly spaced arrangement of semi-cylindrical columns on the downstream crest surface, inspired by the "Eiheiji Temple's Colonnade and Cedar Grove." The reservoir, "Daibutsu Lake," has a catchment area of 3.1 km² and a flooded area of 4 hectares. It is named after Mount Daibutsu, the water source. At the upstream end lies the Daibutsu-san Mountain trailhead, offering a pilgrimage course commemorating Dogen Zenji, founder of the Soto Zen school. Along this route are Tiger-Spotted Falls and the ruins of Daibutsu-ji Temple, where Dogen Zenji once resided temporarily.
