Zenkei-ji Temple

The temple where the soul of Hashimoto Sainai, a great figure of the Bakumatsu period born in Fukui, rests

Zenkei-ji Temple is the family temple of Hashimoto Sainai, a great figure of the late Edo period born in Fukui.

Zenkei-ji and Myōkyō-ji were originally located in what is now Ichijōdani before the Edo period, but were relocated to their current site after the fall of the Asakura clan.

Zenkei-ji, the family temple of the Hashimoto clan that produced Hashimoto Sainai in the Bakumatsu period, merged with Myōkei-ji. Since then, it has served as Sainai's memorial temple, safeguarding his grave site in Sainai Park.

To the north lies Sainai Park, where Hashimoto Sainai and his parents are buried. Immediately to the south is Saikōji Temple, housing the graves of Shibata Katsuie and Oichi. The surrounding area is dotted with traditional Japanese confectionery shops, making it an ideal spot for exploring history on foot or by rental bicycle.
