Hanakae “Flower Exchange” Festival

Pray for Romance by Trading Cherry Blossom Branches

Early each April, Kanegasaki-gu Shrine holds its Flower-Exchanging Festival. This festival is based on an old tradition: young men and women trade cherry blossom branches, as a prayer to find true love and happiness. Visitors can buy cut cherry blossom branches for a small fee.

During the festival period, events include exchanging branches with lucky maidens, nighttime cherry blossom illuminations, a lottery for local specialties, and the Flower Exchange Ritual (held on weekends).
