Mikuni Minato Obi no Machi Nagashi
Mikuni Port flourished as a port of call for Kitamae ships ーmerchant ships from roughly the 18th to 19th centuries (Edo to Meiji period, 1603–1912) that sailed the Sea of Japan, connecting ports from Osaka to Hokkaido and transporting goods between coastal communitiesー and still retains its charming old-world streetscape.
Set against this backdrop, the Mikuni Minato Obi no Machi Nagashi takes place every October. Dancers flow through the town to the sounds of the shamisen and flute playing the Mikuni-bushi, a traditional song of Mikuni.
The name "Obi no Machi" (Sash Town) originates from the Mikuni-bushi verse describing the narrow, elongated townscape of Mikuni Port as "a town as wide as an obi (sash)."
Enjoy the charming atmosphere of Mikuni Port and the dance performance.
