Takidanji Temple
Takidanji Temple, originally built in 1375, is a popular destination for its beauty, both inside and out. Visitors can see temple buildings that date back to centuries ago, and enjoy the scenery of the temple’s Japanese garden and mossy grounds.
Founded in 1375, this is the oldest temple in Mikuni. The old trees on both sides of the stone-paved approach to the temple are thickly overgrown, giving the temple an atmospheric appearance. The garden inside the temple was the first garden in Fukui Prefecture to be designated by the Ministry of Education as one of Japan's scenic beauty gardens in 1929. There are many valuable buildings on the temple grounds, including the main hall, Kannon-do, Korori, Sanmon, Chinjudo, and Kaisando, which are designated as national important cultural properties. The treasure hall contains a gilt-bronze carved Housogei, a national treasure, and other valuable Buddhist statues, Buddhist paintings, and old documents.
